The Transportation Mobility Cloud
An operating system for transportation
The Transportation Mobility Cloud is a platform that will connect the diverse components of today’s urban mobility systems — connected vehicles, mass transit, pedestrians, city infrastructure and service providers — with the goal of orchestrating a safer, more efficient and sustainable transportation network. It is a flexible and secure platform that provides the necessary building blocks for smart mobility applications, such as routing self-driving cars, managing large-scale fleets or helping residents plan transit journeys.
An open community for mobility
We’re inviting the entire transportation community to join and help shape this shared platform — including automakers, large-scale fleet operators and public transit operators. We believe everyone can share in the value created by this new mobility platform. Users benefit from a new mobility experience, app developers can easily leverage connected vehicle capabilities (e.g. GPS and sensors), partners can access users and the platform’s capabilities, and connected vehicles will pull the services together.
The platform supports the drive toward full vehicle and transportation connectivity.
The Transportation Mobility Cloud provides bidirectional connectivity between vehicles and applications. Vehicle data is securely ingested, normalized and enriched in real-time. Developers can securely and easily access the processed data, be it telemetry, analytics, geolocation events or vehicle metadata, via APIs to support the rapid development of mobility services and applications.
The platform is being extended to facilitate the communication and information flow between a variety of transportation modes. New services that will be developed include data ingestion from sources such as V2X and AV sensors, payment processing, predictive analytics, and much more.
The Autonomic Architecture
The platform receives raw vehicle data from multiple sources, archives them for redundancy, and converts the data into a standardized format used by the platform.
The platform processes and prepares the data to support a variety of applications. For example, fleet management metrics, such as hard acceleration and idling, are derived from the raw connected vehicle data ingested.
The platform provides APIs for developers to securely and easily access and leverage the processed data. These interfaces are secured using modern best practices and technologies and allow powerful applications to be built on top of the platform.
Command & Control:
The platform is able to send instructions to vehicles remotely, such as turning the ignition on or managing an electric vehicle’s charging schedule.
Remote Software and Configuration Updates
Remote Software and Configuration:
Platform users can use the Transportation Mobility Cloud to send configuration updates to connected vehicles over-the-air (i.e. wirelessly).
Underneath all this, a robust infrastructure ensures reliable and secure operations at all times.
Our partners are building powerful applications on top of the Transportation Mobility Cloud.
The platform allows fleet managers to unlock the power of connected vehicle data. As an example, Chariot, a next-generation shuttle service, uses the Autonomic Mobility Cloud to manage and operate its fleets.
The platform supports Transportation-as-a-Service solutions, including services such as ride hailing and passenger-driver matching.
Using the platform, autonomous vehicles can leverage Fleet Management and Transportation as a Service capabilities in order to orchestrate the optimized movement of people and goods.
Developers can use the platform to build connected vehicle mobile apps enabling a range of functionality including remote command & control actions such as EV charging.
Connected Vehicle Cloud Leader
Ford has chosen Autonomic to power their commitment of 100% vehicle connectivity. By 2019, The Transportation Mobility Cloud will be the largest connected vehicle cloud globally.
Diverse Transportation Partners
The platform is able to support multiple transportation partners, including different automakers. We are working with some of the largest transportation companies globally to build our vision of the Transportation Mobility Cloud. Our partners include auto manufacturers, parts suppliers, fleet operators, and other companies working to disrupt today’s mobility systems.
Robust, Reliable and Secure
Our engineers follow best practices to ensure robust and reliable operations. We use a comprehensive and automated system to monitor each component, and we have built the platform to meet the most demanding security needs of connected mobility applications. For instance, a meticulous 3rd-party audit was unable to penetrate our systems.
Scalable and Extensible
Our architectural and technological choices have scalability and extensibility in mind. For instance, we process large amounts of streamed data using the same technologies as by LinkedIn, Netflix and other organizations that have critical real-time applications. Our platform also uses a microservices architecture, a style of designing software as a suite of modular and independent services that are easier to scale, maintain and update compared to traditional approaches.
Through our design decisions and choices of technology and transportation partners, our platform is able to provide connected mobility services at a fraction of the cost of other providers. We believe this is not only a competitive advantage, but a necessity for the success of the Transportation Mobility Cloud. By focusing on “getting the plumbing right” in the most efficient way possible, our partners and users can realize the value created by our open platform.
